1.4.1 Child Sexual Exploitation |
Also see the following procedure in the London Child Protection Procedures: Supplementary Procedures: Section 6, Safeguarding Sexually Exploited Children.
In Lewisham, whenever a referral is received on a child who may be involved in or at risk of sexual exploitation, or if these concerns develop on an allocated case, a multi-agency meeting should be convened, which will be chaired by a child protection coordinator.
The Barnados Project, SE one, which works with young people who are being sexually exploited, should be invited to all these meetings, for advice, and to assist in identifying the levels of risk.
The Social Worker is responsible for setting these meetings up, but can seek advice from the child protection coordinator about whether the meeting is needed, and who should be invited.
Referral forms for the Barnados project should be completed if the criteria is met. If they cannot provide a one to one service for the young person, they can offer consultation and advice to those who are working directly with the young person.
The chairs follow the Barnados checklist and agenda.
